Anyone passionate about film treasures a memory (minimum) from that moment that was known world conquered by the flickering of the screen. Before and after the design looks, usually early in the lives of moviegoers, critics and filmmakers. For Martin Scorsese that moment was in the middle of the '50s, seeing the Waterfront (1954) and East of Paradise (1955), both of Elia Kazan, at a cinema in Little Italy. With just twelve years, Scorsese probably knew something had changed a couple of years later, after abandoning a religious seminary, scored film career at the University of New York. Six decades later, Scorsese pays tribute, with the critic Kent Jones, the Kazan film with this film is more a love letter to an old master that a documentary on the work of a filmmaker.
